Loyola University Medical Center's Blood Bank is in search of a certified MLS/CLS/MT to join our family on the 3rd shift.
We're an academic medical center serving very active stem cell and solid-organ transplant programs, Hematology/Oncology programs, Level 1 Trauma and Departments of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The ideal candidate is able to work independently, is self-motivated, has some Blood Bank experience and is confident in their technical expertise. We will consider new graduates as well.
We offer a third shift differential of $3.75/hour.

Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Technical Specialist (MT) for our Laboratory Department located at Glenbrook Hospital. This is a full-time position and is benefits eligible. Hours will be scheduled on the 2nd shift, Monday thru Friday, from 2:45pm-11:15pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform all testing functions of a Laboratory and Senior Laboratory Associate
  • Provide day to day supervision of laboratory personnel in specialty area as well as overall laboratory personnel supervision in the absence of the Director
  • Function as a resource in area of specialty for instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Insure that all technical problems are resolved prior to patient's results being reported
  • Maintain adequate inventory for area of responsibility and troubleshoots supply problems

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited institution
  • MT (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing

Immunohematology Technologists – Heartland Blood Centers

1 Full-time position available
Evening shift with start times between 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.
Heartland Blood Centers is looking for medical technologists to join their team in the reference lab on the afternoon shift and night shifts. If you are looking for an opportunity to take on challenging blood bank antibody workups and would like to learn more advanced techniques, this is the job for you! You will play a critical role in providing suitable blood products to patients with complex needs in our affiliated hospitals. You will be part of the nationwide network for sharing rare units. If you are interested in preparing for the specialist exam, we have successfully mentored techs for their SBB exam. Continuing education is encouraged and we provide opportunities to our staff to attend workshops and teleconferences, as well as tuition reimbursement. We offer a competitive salary in addition to an applicable shift differential.
This position performs all advanced testing procedures on Immunohematology work including:

  • Antibody I.D.
  • Antigen typing / rare donor screening
  • Discrepancy resolution
  • Maintenance of the rare cells, sera, and product inventories
  • Freezing, deglycerolization, and washing of RBC and washed platelets
  • Offers input and technical advice to member hospitals based on experience and knowledge.

Director Quality Assurance

As an independent not-for-profit blood center, Heartland Blood Centers (HBC) has partnered with donors to meet the needs of people in our local communities. Heartland Blood Centers supplies blood products to 57 local hospitals in a 12 county area including Kane, McHenry, DeKalb, Will, DuPage, Cook, Grundy, Kendall, Lee, Ogle and LaSalle counties in Illinois, and Lake county in Indiana. We operate under a volunteer donor system. . HBC also participates in a nationwide resource sharing program; standing ready to assist other parts of the country during severe blood shortages, national emergencies and increased demands by the armed services. Heartland works toward collecting more than 200,000 units of blood annually
This key Director position provides leadership and direction for developing, implementing, and executing quality assurance processes and practices that support the manufacture of FDA-regulated biologic (blood and tissue) products, CLIA regulated diagnostic testing, and other related regulated activities. The Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Director primary responsibility is to lead the QA/RA function and ensure that all activities meet regulatory requirements and result in high quality, safe, and effective products and services. In addition, the Director will be a member of the Quality Leadership team for a system of affiliates.
The successful candidate will effectively work with management and staff to foster a quality culture while promoting customer service, regulatory compliance, process effectiveness, and efficiency throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have well-developed knowledge of current federal, state regulations, guidelines, accreditation and industry standards as well as cGMPs (current Good Manufacturing Practices) that pertain to the collection, manufacturing, and testing of blood products. Knowledge of standard operating procedures as well as operational processes for collecting, manufacturing, and testing blood products is required. Demonstrated experience functioning in a change agent role with the ability to influence others is a must. Candidates will possess the ability to effectively evaluate the effectiveness of corrective action, and have a clear understanding of validation, change control, and record retention. Excellent communication, critical thinking, collaborative team building skills are required for this role.
Successful candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in a scientific field from an accredited college or university. Additional consideration would be given for candidates with a Master degree in a scientific field, business, healthcare, or other related field. A minimum of five years experience in a regulated industry where change management, validation, and creation of standard operating procedures have been required and successfully implemented required. Experience participating and/or managing FDA site inspections required. The strongest candidate will have additional experience working with accreditation bodies, third party auditors, and notified bodies. At least five years' blood center management experience in quality and regulatory affairs is strongly preferred, as is manufacturing experience in an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9000 certified work environment.
